WHO AM I?
I was born on January 26, 1892 in Texas. I was the first black licensed pilot in the United States. I was proclaimed “the world’s greatest woman flyer” when I gave my first performance at an air show at Curtiss field, near New York City. WHO AM I?
The AHS Varsity Girls Soccer Team defeated Forsyth Central 2 – 0. Goals were scored by Allie Shea and Emily Kuelbs. Shutouts by Jill Maloney and Jackie McGivney. Congratulations girls!
The Alpharetta High School Fine Arts Department is hosting the Georgia Music Educators Large Group Performance Evaluation on the AHS Campus this week. Congratulations to the Alpharetta HS Chamber Orchestra and Alpharetta High School Symphony Orchestras for earning Straight Superior Ratings in Concert Performance and in Sight Reading.
Please come out to the Windward Commons Kroger today, Thursday, February 16th from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm for a balloon release in loving memory of Alex Koser.
The Science National Honor Society is sponsoring the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, February 23 from 9am to 2pm. Sign up during lunch or see Mrs Howell in 2306. All donors will receive an appreciation gift and will be a hero to someone in need.

AHS Book club Feed My Read is proud to support the African Library Project where we Recycle your books to start a library in Africa. The book collection will take place for 2 weeks from February the 13th till February 24th. Please drop off the books in the Media center.

Thank you to all who participated in the Teens for Jeans service project. We are proud to announce that 200 pairs of jeans were collected by AHS! There was a tie for the top 1st period class donations. Congratulations to Ms. Hubbard and Ms. Gilmartin for a job well done!
Our student newspaper, the Hook, will be selling fresh Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts outside the bus depot this Wednesday and Thursday morning. The doughnuts will be $1 apiece, and will be in limited supply. Remember to bring a dollar tomorrow if you want a fresh doughnut!
Students, we want to encourage you to visit the AHS College and Career Cove to research enrichment opportunities, scholarships, and college and career options but we cannot allow students to use the Cove for doing class work, homework, or eating breakfast and lunch. Thank you.

The Baby Picture Contest will take place in the cafeteria starting Thursday, March 22nd with pictures being on display. Voting will take place on Monday and Tuesday March 26th and 27th during both lunch periods. Prizes will be given away to the winners at the Senior Luncheon on March 28th. WHO AM I?

Congratulations to the Raider Varsity Swim and Dive Team! This past weekend they competed against 46 different teams at Georgia Tech in the State Swim and Dive Meet. They had many amazing swims, new team records set, and podium finishers to top it off! The men placed 5th and the women placed 11th in the state! Captain’s Awards go to Jack Nyquist and Jaclyn Rohal. Jack won the diving portion of the meet for the men, earning the state title! He also broke the state record that was set years ago! Way to go Jack!! Jaclyn did wonderful in her individual events and relays, gaining some valuable points and even breaking an AHS record! Everyone played a huge part at the state meet, and it was a great way to end the season. Special thanks to our captains Justin Stubel, Crawford Berry, Colleen Adam, Emily Buckingham, and Kelsey Oakes for their leadership and spirit this season! Great job Raiders!

National Art Honor Society students traveled to Valdosta over the weekend for the State Art Conference and Scholarship Competition. Among the winners was Katy Lipscomb who won two awards. The "Art History Scholarship" scoring the highest on the art history test covering a survey of art history and "Runner Up" for the Largest Portfolio Scholarship based on her beautiful art work. Congratulations Katy!

Congratulations, to the Varsity Lady Raider basketball team as they rolled over Milton last night winning 54-21. With this win the Lady Raiders earn their 20th (!!!!) win of the season, capturing the regular season region champ title, and giving them a first place seed in the region tournament and an automatic bid to the state tournament. The Lady Raiders look to finish their SECOND undefeated season at home this Friday vs West Forsyth. Calling all Faculty, Teachers, and the RAIDER Nation to get HERE FRIDAY night as we celebrate our seniors. Girl’s game starts at 6pm with the boy’s to follow at 7:30!

WHO AM I?
I was born into slavery in 1760 but was one of the first African-Americans to be emancipated during the Revolutionary Era. In 1816, I founded the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Philadelphia and became the first Bishop.

Congratulations to the AHS Academic Bowl Team for winning the Region 6-5A Championship on Saturday. The team will be vying for a place on High-Q this Wednesday at the Fulton County Championships, where they hope to defend their title. Good luck team!
Congratulations to all of the students that participated in the regional science and engineering fair this past weekend.
All seven of the teams from Alpharetta High School placed 1st or 2nd at the fair.
The following students will be moving on to compete at the state level: Elaine Bradley, Ismar Miniel, Emma Livernois, Nikhil Kulkarni, Tarun Nadimpalli, and Younji Lee. Special thanks to all of the faculty members that sponsored these students.
Congratulations to the Alpha Speech Team for their success at the State Championship for 1st and 2nd year speech participants. We had eight state champions! Natalie Nuckolls was state champion of JV Humorous Interpretation, Kara von Schnackenberg was state champion in both JV Dramatic Interpretation and JV Duo Interpretation along with partner Brittany Kamson. Xarumy Hincapie was state champion in Novice Dramatic Interpretation. Dallas Mahan won Novice Humorous interpretation. Saxony Rehklau and Tate Rehklau were both champs of Novice Duo Interpretation. Please congratulate these students for their hard work in representing our school.
The Alpharetta debate team competed and had great success at the Novice and Junior Varsity State championship over the weekend. In the Junior Varsity Division, the Team of Mili Raina and Suraj Sehgal finished as the 3rd best team in the state. Suraj also was named the 3rd best individual speaker. In the novice division, Alpharetta Finished with three of the top five teams in the state. The teams of Kiyoshi Woolheater with Jatin Nanda and Apurva Gundaria with Rajiv Reddy both finished in the top five. The team of Alan Hesu and Aditya Sood have qualified for the Championship round, which will be completed later in the week. Alan was also named the top novice speaker in the state. Congratulations to the debate team on a great performance and good luck to the squad as they compete in the championship round this week.

Also congratulations to the Varsity Lady Raiders as they captured their 19TH win of the season rolling over Roswell Friday night 60-38. The Lady Raiders were lead by Alexis Alexander with 21 pts and 8 rebounds and 4 blocks, Kylee Smith who had 19 pts, 4 steals and 4 assists. The Lady Raiders continue their undefeated season in the region tomorrow night as they take on MILTON at home. Come out and cheer on these LADIES BECAUSE THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!!

Or do you want to simply play a few casual games? The AHS chess club will be meeting next Wednesday (February 8th) after school in Dr. Rollot's room (4213). Applications are now available for Northside Hospital’s Volunteen Program. The application deadline is February 24, but acceptance into the program is very limited and on a first come, first served basis. Packets are available in the Summer Opportunities crate in the College and Career Cove, outside Counseling Suite 1310.

Have any jeans lying around that no longer fit or just aren’t your style? Please donate any gently used jeans of any size, brand, and color to our Teens for Jeans service project. All jeans should be brought to your 1st period class. We will collect jeans beginning on Tuesday January 17th-February 12th. All jeans will be donated to homeless teens in our area. We will be competing with other schools and the winning school will be awarded a free new pair of jeans for each student! The 1st period class to bring in the most jeans will also be rewarded with a breakfast party. Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful cause!
